No fate but the fate you make for yourself.

It’s been on CNN all week, but I didn’t actually see it on YouTube til today – Canon in D is one of my favorite pieces of classical music, and I wouldn’t have ever imagined it on electric guitar, but it is pretty impressive:

Yes, because I get mistaken for Liv Tyler ALL THE TIME. *snort*

Yeah, it’s more “look, they all have brown hair and part it on the same side!” recognition, but an interesting little tool.

And last night’s 4 mile run put the lid on my best training month to date. Over 5K of swimming, 43 miles on the bike plus trainer time, and 20 miles of running. (The running mileage is definitely lower than it’s been this spring, but the swimming has been much MUCH more necessary.) 15K on tap this Saturday and then a mini tri Sunday – it’s just a 250M indoor pool swim, 4 mile bike ride and a 1.4 mile run – should be an fun & insane free for all. (This is assuming I am not in too much pain from the 15K, in which case, I may just go and volunteer.) Overall, just incredibly pleased with what I’ve accomplished last month.

On tap for June is to keep the training volume up and the following:
6/2 – Volunteering at packet pickup for the mini. (I am writing this down because I keep worrying that I’ll forget.)
6/3 – 15K down at Quantico
6/4 – Manassas Mini (depending on if I can move, LOL)
6/17 – Tim Harmon 5K
6/25 – Lake Montclair Olympic distance tri.

I just registered for the 5K this week, they had flyers for it at the 10K last weekend. I’ve never done a stand alone 5K before, and it should be fun. It’s also a whopping 20 minutes from the house and starts at 8:30, so I don’t have to be up at 5AM. Lake Montclair is why my swimming volume has been upped so much – it’s a 1 mile lake swim to start things off, so I’m shooting for 3x a week in the pool. I’ve added in a speedwork day on Tuesdays for running – just around the block (1.5 miles) and it’s walk 1 minute, sprint 1 minute. Did that yesterday w/ a 10:56 pace, not too bad considering half of it was walking. :)

Oh, since I’ve stopped the whole “work” thing, I moved the laptop out of the office down to the living room. The dog is MUCH happier with this setup as he can chill out on the sofa with me instead of cramming himself under the desk. He’s becoming a fan of the Late Late Show as well.

Oh, and this was sent by a friend of the family – damn funny video – it’s like they have seen me & my brother go at it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bhcA4Ry65FU Work safe.

What would you attempt if you knew you could not fail?

May 5, 2006 - 5:04 AM No Comments

Yanked from <lj user=”calience”>

1. When was the last time you drank?
I have a beer to my right at the moment.

2. Who was the last person you drank with?
Peeps at Glory Days, Sunday night. (Sounds bad to be drinking on a Sunday night, but I went in for hockey playoffs)

3. What is your fav. drink?
Guinness

4. Are you an alcoholic?
Pretty sure the answer is no on that one, though I think there is always someone out there that thinks everyone is an alcoholic.

5. How many drinks does it take you to get drunk?
Seems to depend on what I am imbibing, but a lot regardless.

6. What is the last drink you had?
Negra Modelo

7. Have you ever gone to school/work drunk?
No. Hungover? Yes. Sleep deprived to the point I probably might as well have been drunk? Yes.

8. Do you get hangovers?
Occasionally – mainly if I forget the Gatorade & Advil before bed. Dehydration is a bitch.

9. When did you start drinking?
Sophomore year in HS. Everclear KoolAid… Way to get started…

10. Have you ever thrown up on someone cause you were so drunk?
Thank god, no. (Near someone is another story altogether.)

11. What is the craziest thing you have ever done while drunk?
Hell, I have no idea, everything seems perfectly reasonable at the time.

12. Have you ever hooked up while you were drunk?
I plead the 5th.

13. Do you wish you were drinking right now?
Again, NM to my right.

14. Have you ever been so drunk that you dont remember what happened?
Somewhat fuzzy details that sharpen up later, yes, no full on “can’t remember” blackout type stuff.

15. What is the worst drink?
Tequila. Well, cheap tequila. Cheap tequila straight.

16. Do you drink during the week?
Yes, cause why wait til Friday for a beer?

17. Has someone asked you to stop drinking?
Not that I recall. Or was listening to.

18. Have you ever been kicked out of a bar?
Once, but it was with a group, so I had to go with the rest of them.

19. When is the last time you were drunk?
Full on? It’s been a while. Super happy? Final Caps home game.

20. Have you ever been in a fight when you were drinking?
Does helping break one up count?

21. Does your family drink?
Yeah.

22. What is your favorite drinking game?
It’s been years since I played any drinking games – I sucked at all of them.

23. if you could only drink one drink for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Guinness works.

24. Have you ever had a drink named after you?
Wow, that would be cool.

25. What is your favorite day of the year for drinking?
Look, there’s a hockey game on tonight!

26. What is the earliest time that you’ve started drinking?
Around 11 AM, but that was also right after a 10 mile race. Guinness – the recovery drink of champions.

27. What is the longest stretch of time that you’ve drank?
No idea.

28. Have you ever passed out from drinking?
Yep, high school. I remember telling a friend, “I think I’m done now”, headed upstairs to one of the bedrooms, hauled myself up to the top bunk and out like a light in about 5 seconds. Had the timing been less precise, I would have fallen off the bunkbed ladder and been asleep on the floor.

29. Ever have to go to the hospital because of something alcohol related?
Nope.

30. Have a dui/dwi/minor?
Nope.

31. Have you ever had an interaction with police while under the influence?
Yes… 7-11. High school. Drunk. Getting coffee – fortunately NOT driving or anything like that. Struck up a nice conversation with the officer while prepping my coffee. My designated driver was sure we were going to be arrested. However, it would seem the officer was more amused by the situation, especially given that I wasn’t the driver.

32. What are your parent’s drinks of choice?
Mom liked Vodka Tonics, got her hooked on Guinness, too. Dad like Rum & Cokes. Both liked scotch.

33. Ever done a keg stand?
I don’t even know what it is.

34. Have you ever drank out of a beer bong?
Almost. Chickened out at the last minute when I had visions of beer coming out of my ears.

35. What is your favorite alcohol related beer commercial?
The “Brilliant!” commericals from Guinness, and most Corona commericals, cause who doesn’t want to be at the beach?

36. What’s your favorite karoake song?
Only made that major mistake in judgement once.

37. Do you have a favorite bar?
Definitely.

38. Have you ever woken up in a strange place after a night of drinking?
I suppose you’d have to discount the fact that my life is strange in general… So, no.

39. What types of alcohol have a bad effect on you?
Can’t do straight tequila anymore. The smell of Jager also doesn’t do good things for me, and yet I’ve never had it.

40. What is your favorite hangover cure?
Gatorade. Tons of it BEFORE you go to bed and a couple Advil.

Sooooooo close to the weekend…

I really should be in bed, but I’m kinda glued to the Eagle Cam at the moment. (It’s also better than most things on TV these days.)

Oh, and if anyone out there happens to know that is an axe murderer or something like that, now would be the time to let me know, as we are going to Huntley Meadows this Sunday to look at pretty nature related things and such. Given that it’s a marsh/swamp from what I can see in the pics, it would make a great place to dump a body… Seriously, I’m really looking forward to it, both for the chance to finally get to meet Dan (who is quite literally just down the road) and it looks like a great place to go take some pictures.

The eagle is now making noises, maybe calling for a shift change? The dog is utterly confused.

For a 4 hour day, today lasted much, much too long. One of my coworkers did point out that I look more relaxed already. I don’t doubt it. 10 workdays left. (I’m taking next Friday off!)

Well, the sun seems to be setting in British Columbia and Mom eagle looks like she’s about to crash out for the night, I suppose I should do the same.

So, the cleaning folks call this morning, say they need to come tomorrow as the car broke down – no biggie, this would only be the second time in over two years of using them that they have had to reschedule. I don’t think anything more of it, a little while ago I hear some crashing and banging about downstairs and think “Damn, WTF are those cats getting into??!?” Then I hear a “Hello?” which scared the crap out of me – seems the crew got the car started again.

In the “someone at the office has finally gotten a clue” department – this is cleanup week. Which translates to “don’t take any new calls and ignore everyone and just get your crap cleared out.” Granted, we can’t actually stop incoming calls, so we each get a blissful day to ourselves to do this. Me? I get two days… Possibly something to do with the fact that there are 128 calls in our queue, 97 are assigned, and 37 of those happen to be mine. Tuesday and Thursday are my days. :-D

In other work related news, I have actually put in for a day OFF so I can have a long weekend next weekend. Now if my manager would just email me back and say “Yes, of course, because we really would rather your head NOT explode” that would be good.

I have discovered that when I work 9 to 6, it doesn’t really get light early enough to run and be ready to work on time, nor is it still light enough when I get off work… So, looks like outside running is going to be limited to 11-8 days and the weekends. This means I get to go learn how to use the treadmill at the gym without killing myself…that should be some good entertainment. Managed to swim 550 meters last night *after* doing 30 minutes on the LifeCycles. WOOT!

Thank god for hockey and the gym right now – work has been just so downright screwy lately it’s good to have stuff I want to focus on outside the office, otherwise, I really think I would lose my mind.

pisceandreamer is happy.

Sure that was a Monday?

Granted, it was slow because of the holiday, but the clients that did call in were exceptionally mellow. To a near frightening degree… But hey, I’ll take it.

Weather cleared up nicely for lunch, got out and rode around for a while, crap speed, but still nice to get out. Couple hills towards the end I was asking myself why I am doing this… Oh yes, good health, bikinis, men. Not in that order. I’ve never really realized how few flat grades there are in this neighborhood until I started riding it…

Courtesy fark.com: Did you ever wonder what it would be like to see a water balloon pop in space? I didn’t ever think about it until I saw the question, and then suddenly I really needed to know…

Maybe it’s the endorphins from the workouts, but I was thinking today about how I’ve kinda landed in a nice happy zen spot in my life. Work is settling back down, non-work is going well, things are good. Now I have to just make sure I don’t get complacent…
