We get to buy a new hot water heater!! (Or maybe repair the existing one. Or maybe it’s just the pilot light and I’ll look like an idiot.) Either way, no hot water round these parts…
I seem to recall that hot water heaters have a lifespan of 10-15 years, and this one is about 12-13 years old, so I suppose it was time. Extra annoying cauyse the outside looks so nice and shiny - I just can’t help but look at it and think, “But it LOOKS fine!”
It is a gas hot water heater, so I don’t know if we’ll have to coordinate between the plumber and gas company, or if the plumbers can just handle it on their own. (It does have it’s own gas shutoff valve, so I would think the plumbers could do it on their own - never had a gas hot water heater before.)
I’m just glad I discovered this before I attempted to take a shower and not halfway through a shower.

Plumber, most likely, we think. (Our pilot light went out, and I used the instructions by the valve to light it again. Worked just fine. :)

Yeah, I’m fairly certain it’s truly dead - I noticed a week or so ago that the hot water was *really* hot and when my last hot water heater went out, the same thing happened up until it quit - the coils start getting extra hot on their way to burning themselves out.
Talked to a friend last night who recently replaced his gas hot water heater and the good news is that we don’t have to try to coordinate this with the gas company. (Never had a gas hot water heater before, I had visions of no hot water for who knows how long trying to get the plumber & gas company together…)

I was looking into tankless and inline water heaters, but them things are still pricey! (However, I’m sure the cost savings would make up the cost of the heater in a year’s time–or if it was time to replace outright, I’m sure the net overall savings would be immediate.)
