Who all out there is actually familiar with “Spoon River Anthology“? (And if you don’t mind saying…your age?)
Not necessarily “read it and remember every detail” so much as having some idea of what I’m talking about when I say it.
I’ll admit I was struggling for the exact title last night when I was joking around with my brother about the “Tales from the Pub” version, but there was no recognition whatsoever of what I was talking about.
I’m just trying to figure out if this was something I learned via my Mom the English Major or something we read in school that was abandoned by the time my brother got there.

I must admit that I had to search google for information, but then I’m a foreigner and American poetry is not my forte. Although, Russian Sonia did pique my curiosity.
In all honesty, I’m not quite certain what my forte might be.

Half the fun in life is poking about trying to discover what your forte is!

I’m afraid I’d never heard of it before, so if it had a school origin I don’t think it was present in my school system.

It was assigned reading when I was in 7th grade (1992), although I didn’t actually read it all. I went to my grandfather to ask questions because it made no sense, he had no clue how to explain it in a manner appropriate for my age, and my family sent a letter to the school refusing to let me read it.
I’ve picked it up once or twice as an adult and still been appalled that my teacher thought it suitable for 7th graders to read.

All I can think at this point is that I must have read it in college, then… For some reason just thought it was much more common.

I am 31 and am well versed in things that are usually known by people around ten to fifteen years older than me and I have no clue what you’re talking about. :)

I am not THAT much older than you!

The name is very, very familiar, but I don’t know anything beyond that.

I’m 35, and I got introduced to Spoon River Anthology in an acting class. I was so impressed with it that I developed a new online editon at
