So, I’m thinking I may head up to Philly next month for a couple days for the Philadelphia Flower Show & the Tutankhamun exhibit. Looking at the maps, the convention center/hotel/museum all are within about a mile of each other, which is good, but I know absolutely nothing of Philly, so it may also all be in the skankiest part of town.
So, if anyone out there knows the area around the convention center at all and can tell me if it’s semi-decent or if I’m not going to want to even leave my hotel room, that would be great.

Its definitely one of the better parts of Philly. Usual big city caveats apply. I think it looks a bit more run-down than it actually is.
In general, heading towards the art museum (cue Rocky music) or UPenn will lead you towards better places. I was a little apprehensive the closer I got towards Jersey at night.
I highly recommend stopping at Monks Cafe (626 S 16th St, Philadelphia, PA) - longish walking distance, but reasonably safe neighborhood and definitely worth it.

Awesome - I want to be able to do a little wandering around and that’s good to know that I probably won’t get mugged simply walking out the front door of the hotel. :)
Did y’all get slammed with this storm up where you are?

We ended up getting about 2″ of frozen slush. Which, of course, is turning into solid ice. And its still sleeting. 5 miles south of us it was just rain, 5 miles north of us was just snow. In the mountains about 50 miles from here they got 23 inches of powder. We just had no luck with the winter storm. Although we may be heading to the mountains this weekend to get some skiing in.

Yeah, we got about and inch and a half of snow followed by ice. I would have just preferred nothing but snow.
