Why it’s good to hang at the race hotel for an extra nite:
You go down for a couple beers & dinner and then find yourself outside on the boardwalk, screaming in someone that has done TWO marathons in one day. (Today’s race was for a great charity and this gents goal had been ~8K and he came in around ~20K in donations…)
And oh, yeah, he’s old enough to be my grandfather. Watching that finish, with a police escort, was pretty amazing. I seemed to be the only one in the little circle of people around me that had run today - I had to do a very quick explanation of how Very Important it was to scream this guy into the finish at the top of our lungs. And we did. And I went and tackled him and gave him the biggest hug I had when he finished. And another one a couple minutes later, too. Cause damn, that is hard core.
