Bit of a day from hell.
Skipped 2.5 hours of work for a doc’s appt - first time in 8 years I’ve been seeing him, he got called out to deliver a baby. So, yeah, I can give him a pass on my appointment getting started a tad behind schedule.
Get back to the office and this afternoon I swear, it was like half the people weren’t there. One coworker even commented later that, gosh, I seem a little stressed. No shit, maybe if you picked up a few freaking calls, things wouldn’t get so damn stacked up. What pisses me off is when we get so stacked up like that, I have other calls that once I get the data, it takes 5 minutes to figure out - but I never get that 5 minutes! So, the client gets stuck waiting because we’ve got new calls through the roof.
My call from hell for the week is a client whose server crashed two weeks ago, and never bothered to call us so we could make sure it was OK before they started processing things again, and lo and behold, now they’re having problems. User is complaining to me about her “big deadline”, which yes, I really DO understand, but there’s just not much I can do - it’s me and two of our most senior folks on this call… But how about you go bitchslap your DBA around who declared everything to be “just fine” when it wasn’t? I’m running out of sympathy.
I blame it on the whole Venus in Transit thing.
Got an email from my brother - they’ve made it to the Dominican Republic (they’re on a cruise) and wanted to say hi and see how the cats were doing. This is also his way of being subtle and saying, “You didn’t forget to feed the cats, right?”
Here’s hoping tomorrow is a little calmer than today was.
