Muslim Woman Sues to Wear Veil for License
This one drives me a little nuts. A driver’s license needs a full face photo - it’s that simple. It’s not only a permit to drive, it is the de-facto identification card for the state. Ya just gotta do it. It’s not about opression, it’s about beign able to show that you are who you say you are. Even in Saudi Arabia, women remove their veils for their passport photos. I’ve had the DMV folks ask me to fix my hair cause it was falling down in my face.
One thing I see coming - I bet the ALCU will next be suing Florida for the fact that the DMV shares a whole boatload of information with the Florida law enforcement authorities. (It was pretty cool when the DMV director was testifying about the work they’ve done to make as much of the information almost instantly accessible by law enforcement.)
Oh, and the other thing? She’s a convicted felon. She removed her veil for her mug shot. (And her husband was found to be in possesion of 5 driver’s licenses with his photo and 5 different names.) My thought was to just take the mug shot and put it on the driver’s license - then she doesn’t have to remove the veil for another picture. (Yes, that’s a snarky attitude and I admit it.)
Having a driver’s license is a privlege, not a right.
