OK, got it out of the oven, cooled off, out of the pans, no problems.
Nice volcano thing going on top with both of them… Slice off the top of one layer, flip it over, slather on some frosting, drop on second layer.
This is where I discover that my oven apparently leans. So, quickly lift off top layer and move it around 180 degrees so the cake doesn’t look quite so much like a ski slope anymore.
Now, this is where I got in over my head. I wanted to use two different types of frosting. Alternated triangles of chocolate frosting and cream cheese frosting from the center of the top and down the sides. Somewhat remiscent of a circus tent, and then to continue the black and white theme, I put some of those Hershey striped kisses on top.
Now, my frosting skills with one color aren’t anything to write home about. Two colors? Well, let’s just say that it’s a really good thing that this is for my MOM and she’ll love it no matter what. And it will taste fine.
The end result has left the big guy speechless. I do believe that if he had been drinking at the time, his beverage of choice would have come out his nose.
I think I may be making a bakery run in the morning…
