On to happier things…

September 28th, 2002

Tonight kicks off the 26th annual Festival of Donald. Donald being my brother, and the Festival being for his birthday. This year it will be running a full two weeks.

Last weekend we went out and picked out his gift - cell phone. Got it activated today and all wrapped up and ready to go. Have the number in my speed dial so I can call it while he’s trying to get it unwrapped…

The present for the big guy came in as well for his birthday - he may get that tonight as well.

We’re doing dinner at Outback. Nicer than sitting home thinking about having to find another work gig.

I love my cats…

September 24th, 2002

But it is really hard to sit here and type when I’ve got one in my lap trying to chew on my ears.

Think twice

September 24th, 2002

before ordering food at Dave & Buster’s…

Would seem that several people from the big guy’s office had “extreme” reactions on Sunday as well…

he’s feeling better, good thing. My one piece of nurse advice is: “Go get some sleep!”

That housecleaning thing…

September 24th, 2002

I fully admit, I am a slob. I think I got it from my Dad. My Mom was pretty good and keeping reasonably under control, so it didn’t show so much that he was a disaster like me.

I don’t think it is some repressed rebellion thing. My mom is relatively neat, but not a neat freak.

I know people that can just take care of things as they go along without even having to think about it.

I am not one of those people.

I know I should just do it. But the fact of the matter is, after 5 minutes, I see no visible results, I get bored, and I find myself sitting on the floor reading the nearest book.

There is definitely something defective with me on this aspect. ;)

One small ray of hope: My mother rebuilt the vanity in her dressing area, added this and that and shelves and baskets and such. It’s perfect - the area is TOTALLY neat, all the time. I was a bit despondent looking at it. She pointed out: “It’s taken me FIFTY SEVEN years to get this organized!”

I *am* doing laundry!

In review, a good weekend

September 23rd, 2002

Nice do nothing, putter around, relax and kick back weekend. Could use a few more of those.

Big guy got bruised all to hell from paintball and is also sick as a dog, too. I am a lousy nurse, which probably doesn’t help.

Wonder if my boss got the ok from the docs to come back to work tomorrow. (Note to self: don’t ever have a bicycle crash bad enough that it puts you in the hospital)

Suppose I should get to bed soon, another week in which to excel or some such nonsense.

WFLS 93.3

September 23rd, 2002

Is a pretty darn good country station. I think today however, was the first time I have ever heard them on a Sunday morning. (early)

Oh my goodness, who knew there was so much church-goin’ country music. My first thoughts upon waking were, “I am going to hell for not being in church today…”

I wonder…

September 22nd, 2002

How many bruises the big guy will have from paintball…

On To Do list item #3, which is to end the weekend with the same car that I started with.

Have you ever had the car bug SO BAD that you just KNEW that if you set foot on the lot of a car dealer, it was all over but the shouting?

It’s not even the *new* car bug, it’s the *bigger* car bug.

Carmax has a couple of CRV’s I want. They’re starting to get in the 2002 models, even, which are a touch bigger than the previous ones.

ACK.

Two happy cats

September 22nd, 2002

Brought home more kitty food from the grocery store. I’ve got two fat happy cats at my feet who are getting ready to start a wrasslin’ match.

Update on to do list

September 22nd, 2002

1. Get more sleep - DONE, sort of. That earlier nap is probably why I am up now

2. Meet little bro to get his birthday present - DONE. And the present is basically free after various rebates that we found out about. Tres cool.

3. Do NOT trade in my car for another one this weekend - So far, so good.

4. Housework, if time permits - Damn the bad luck…

The dog loves me…

September 22nd, 2002

It occurred to me that the bf’s company retreat thing was running much longer than initially planned on.

It also occurred to me that the dog was going to explode soon if she wasn’t let out.

The dog is now happily sitting at my feet, unexploded.

The insanity

September 21st, 2002

I have three credit cards. A Discover, a MasterCard and a Visa.

The Visa card is the one I rarely, if ever use. It is also the one that they keep upping the credit limit on.

Between the three of them, I now have enough in credit lines to cover a years worth of expenses.

Insane.

Some people…

September 21st, 2002

Got a call from a recruiter today, had a “great” position in a “large, publicly traded government contractor”…

I called her back, left her a message saying thanks for the call, but I was already on an indefinite length gig and was quite happy with it.

Well, she calls me back.
“You DO realize this is a PERMANENT position, right?”
“Yes, but I am very content here doing the contract/consulting work”
“Well, good luck keeping THAT up in THIS job market”

Sheesh, this woman isn’t someone I’ve dealt with before, but I have dealt w/ people from her firm. They usually aren’t downright rude when you’re in a position where you’re happy.

Good Morning

September 20th, 2002

Woohoo, it’s FRIDAY!

And I don’t have a damn thing planned for the whole weekend, so guess who is going to be catching up on some sleep?!??? Oh, and there will be some housework, too - the god-knows-what that is growing in my lawn is taking over again. Hate that. Really need to go for the rock garden, I think, or just put in ivy everywhere…

And I got paid today! (That’s always a bit of a crapshoot - I get paid weekly, but I always worry that somehow my timesheet didn’t get into payroll, ’cause the fax machine where I work kinda sucks)

Gotta remember to stop by the agency office at lunch or something and pick up some spare timesheets, I’ve run out and I don’t know if I have anymore around the house.

Another day, another 62 cents after taxes.

*Yawn*

September 20th, 2002

I’m tired.

Long day. First half very productive. Second half wishing I’d gone slower with the work from the first half. My boss has been out for the last week (unplanned, BAD bicycle accident), so I am thinking there is other stuff to be done, I just don’t know about it.

Spent two hours scanning stuff. Crappy monitor. Eyes hurt.

Still need to clean my boots. Don’t think it’s going to happen this evening. Not going to have time to do it in the morning.

I need about 4 more hours in a day.

What’s bad is that I am busy and tired and NOTHING INTERESTING is going on in my life!

OK, so I won’t call in sick…

September 19th, 2002

I’ll just be late getting into the office today.

Gotta run!!!

I cannot go to work today

September 19th, 2002

said little Peggy Ann McKay
I have the measles and the mumps
a gash
a rash
and purple bumps…

I think I am overdue for a long weekend.

My job is ok - the people are nice, the hours are good, but I have finally come to the conclusion that I am bored. Can’t say that I know what to do about it - I don’t know what else I’d do as it is.

Shame so much in life has to hinge on available financial resources.

Bah.

I want my computer back

September 18th, 2002

I miss my computer. This one is good, it works. But it doesn’t have MY stuff on it, and it has no sound, either.

I want my mp3’s…

What am I doing here?

September 18th, 2002

Still don’t have that really nailed down yet. Drives me nuts.

Right now I am a contract accountant. (Kind of like a contract assassin, but accountants go to jail more often these days)

Fortunately, it isn’t taking up my every waking hour, which is good.

But that leaves waking hours that I should be doing *something* with, and I’m not.

Housework really should be at the top of that list, but this is me we’re talking about.

Still need to figure out what comes after this career. Don’t think I’ll do this until I retire. Current job is fine, just don’t think this career is gonna stick. It’s been a good 10 year run, though.

Hmmm, things to ponder.

It’s hard to type…

…with a cat on you

I think I’ve scared my brother

September 17th, 2002

OK, so I’m sitting here IM’ing w/ little bro (have some online services again, just not all…) and regaling him of tales of the York County Fair. Very cool, lots of fun, tons of animals… His reaction? (IDs changed to protect the innocent)

[19:37] LittleBro: you used to be so sophiticated
[19:37] LittleBro: what happened?
[19:37] LittleBro: and I used to be able to spell

What’s so wrong with taking a day out in the middle of nowhere, stomping through cattle barns (christened my boots), followed by watching your fav country music singer and then going out for a few beers afterwards????

Seems I am a hick. :-D

Weddings are nice…

September 16th, 2002

…if you actually know the people that are getting married…
