This was asked of me on July 4, after we stopped at the Piedmont SCPA booth at the fair.

I’ve been taking care of two dogs for two weeks now. I’ve never had a dog of my own, and I don’t think there is one in my near future!

Now, don’t get me wrong - these are great dogs. But these two weeks have convinced me that I don’t have what it takes to keep a dog of my own…

The barking…

First, there is Snoodle, who is a rescue and has a few separation anxiety issues, but has gotten much better. But he barks his head off when you come home, whether you’ve been gone all day or for 10 minutes.

Eve should have a job with Tom Ridge. She is fully convinced that the following things are threats to national security and MUST alert me to them

- The kids playing whiffle ball in the yard behind ours
- The cat that occasionally walks down the street
- Whoever it is that is walking their dog each morning at 5:50 am

Then there is the kitchen help. I’ve fortunately not broken my neck yet with their being underfoot. Close, but not quite.

The Houdini thing. Not once, but TWICE, Eve has managed to get the back door open and they have had a grand old time running in and out of the house when I wasn’t there. Thank god they didn’t go over the fence.

They can’t be left overnight, either, which is kind of a PITA.

They really need to have a yard, and I don’t have one at my place.

So, until I am doing well enough to have a single family home, and so settled that i don’t go anywhere anymore, I don’t think I’ll have a dog of my own.

Awesome critters, but so much work. :)
